Mission

Indian Human Rights Coalition (IHRC) was launched with a simple goal: to support the protection of fundamental rights, particularly those of marginalized communities, in the world’s second-largest nation. This is among the most important issues in the world.

IHRC will fund organizations best positioned to deliver positive impact to restore and protect the rights of Muslims and minorities across India.

Today’s India is a contradiction. It is a proud country, with a young, vibrant population that is widely expected to be one of the great economic success stories of the next half-century. It is a country with a rich history, a deep culture of patriotism, and a constitution built on the noble ideals of equality, pluralism, and individual freedom. However, in recent years, there has been systematic dismantling of basic protections for the country’s marginalized populations, with particular targeting of religious minorities. In direct violation of the nation’s founding ideals, millions of people have been stripped of citizenship, subjected to mass imprisonment in the form of curfews, and denied access to basic freedoms like freedom of speech and the internet.

The best way to support the restoration and protection of rights in India is through grassroots action. IHRC has conducted extensive research to identify the best organizations to deliver this impact.

Stories of these organizations and their work are found on our partner page. Their incredible work is reason for optimism and merits your financial support.

Working together, we can all help India deliver on its founding dream of being a pluralistic, egalitarian democracy, with equal opportunity for all.

IHRC’s Pillars

International Awareness

Few press outlets properly voice the pain inflicted upon religious minorities every single day as a result of the rise in ethnonationalism. As a result, the international community has very little idea of the violence and discrimination against minorities every day across India.

Just as international awareness has brought about change elsewhere, we support organizations that raise awareness of ongoing religious discrimination in India.

Litigation & Advocacy

Religious minorities across India are being detained for simply being minorities; the free press is being stifled for speaking the truth about discrimination that minorities are facing; rights of free citizens are being stripped day in and day out. Free speech and civil liberties need to be supported.

By utilizing and supporting impact litigation and promoting advocacy, we support organizations that will fight for the rights of those most marginalized across India.

Education & Empowerment

Education is one the greatest equalizers in eliminating racial disparities throughout the world. Only 3% of college students in India are Muslim and only 14% are from backward castes. This deep underrepresentation allows for the system to continue to oppress minorities. Muslims and minority communities must be educated in order to create a free and fair India

We support organizations who provide educational opportunities and resources to underrepresented communities.
